What about qualifications? Andy is a fully qualified member of The Association of Teachers and Lecturers, The Association of Mountaineering Instructors, The British Association of Snowsports Instructors & the British Association of International Mountain Leaders and has 38 years experience of working in the outdoors. Andy is an experienced classroom teacher and school based Youth & Community Tutor. He was formerly a member of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres and an Instructor/Associate Trainer for Outward Bound. Andy has worked for 3 LEA·s, in schools, residential outdoor centres and residential schools abroad. He still teaches Physical Education and Geography.

His NGB qualifications include:-

  • Mountain Leadership Award (Summer),
  • Mountain Leadership Award (Winter),
  • International Mountain Leader Award,
  • Winter Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor, (was MIC)
  • BASI Grade 2 Alpine Instructor,
  • Mountain First Aid Certificate,
  • RYA Yachtmaster/RYA Senior Instructor/RYA Safety Boat/RYA VHF Operators Licence.
  • Rescue 3 Swiftwater Rescue Technician
  • Other staff brought in to assist are also fully qualified and experienced in their field of work.

What about safety? Instructors would always carry a mobile phone, map & compass, emergency rations, whistle, first aid kit, emergency shelter. Our itinerary would be left at the home base, with our home emergency contact when operating in remote areas. Staff/participant ratios are always in line with National Guidelines and safety, enjoyment and learning are our priorities.

What about my personal information? Adventures needs to collect some of your personal information. We understand that this is your personal information and you have a right to your privacy. The GDPR was enforced across all EU Member States on 25 May 2018. How much does it cost? Prices Adventures CHARGES £35 per hour as a base level for the provision of mountain activities. Some equipment e.g. helmets, harnesses, ropes can be provided. All courses and itineraries are individually planned and prices are negotiable for extended trips etc; don't hesitate to call to discuss your particular requirements. Please do not hesitate to ask! Bookings are considered firm in the diary when a deposit of 50% of the agreed fee is received. What about licensing? Andrew Brown is licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service to provide rock climbing, abseiling, ice climbing, gorge scrambling, hill walking & mountaineering, sea level traversing, improvised rafting & sailing. What about insurance? Participants are recommended to take out their own personal accident insurance, there are links below to suitable companies! Cover can be taken out which covers you for e.g. rock climbing and abseiling even if just for a two day break in the UK.
